Schoolies is the end of school holiday celebrations for school leavers across Australia, predominantly held on Queensland’s Gold Coast and first staged in the 1980s.

Although coming to prominence as a Queensland and Gold Coast holiday tradition, the concept has caught on right across Australia.

The now more organised practise of school leavers going on (normally) their first holiday without parents has now been replicated in New South Wales and Victoria as well as in North Queensland.

Schoolies in 2010 will run from 20 Nov 2010 to 12 Dec 2010 with the first 10 days being mostly for Queensland schoolies, followed by those from New South Wales and Victoria in the following weeks.

There are a number of activities planned for 2010, mostly centred around night clubs (with and without alcohol) and beach parties which is understandable seeing as for most schoolies, it’s the first time they can hit the clubs and dance floors of the adult world.
