Schoolies Week has been held on Queensland’s Gold Coast fro more than 20 years and was first staged in the 1980s.
Initially the annual pilgrimage was often impromptu and mainly involved school leavers making the trip from Brisbane to the Gold Coast in small groups of friends to enjoy their first night club experiences together.
The whole week at the end of school is now far more organised and is well known across Australia.
More than 90 percent of school leavers that booked holidays in 2009 booked for the Gold Coast due to its history and tradition as the place that started it all. The Gold Coast also benefits from state government and volunteer support, helping to organise activities and provide safety and security for attendees.
Schoolies in 2010 will run from 20 Nov 10 to 12 Dec 10 with the first week or so being predominantly Queensland school leavers, later they are joined (or replaced) by those from New South Wales and Victoria.
There are a number of activities planned for 2010, which mostly involve night clubs (both with and without alcohol) as well as beach parties and activities, for most schoolies, it is the first time they are allowed into the adult world and dance floors of the nightclub scene.
Bookings for accommodation on the Gold Coast during Schoolies Week can be made right here on visit-queensland.com.au in our Gold Coast Accommodation section, or if you would like more information about the activities during schoolies, you can click on the image below and check out the events before you make your booking.
Bookschoolies.com have arranged for special package deals that are specific to school leavers and can make the whole “First Holiday” experience a much easier one to organise.
For school leavers, things such as photo ID and building security passes and party specific entry wrist bands are also available from schoolies.com. They also ensure that extra security is on hand at most accommodation houses that cater for schoolies to ensure the safety of guests and their belongings during their stay.
All accommodation houses have their own specific rules about the numbers of guests etc so please be sure to check these details when you make your booking.
There will be limited rooms available as the year goes on for the schoolies period for 2010 as most school leavers plan their holiday a year in advance so if you’re thinking of going to the Gold Coast for Schoolies Week, you will need to book as soon as you can so you don’t miss out.
