Queensland Travel Bookings on the rise
(Queensland Travel News)
(0) marks: 0Tourism Queensland has said that international interest in Queensland holidays is on the rise.
Tourism Queensland met with global tourism representatives in Cairns recently to discuss the state of international travel as well as the latest travel trends.
The meeting was attended by representatives from numerous key markets for Tourism Queensland and international executive director Wendy Harch says international visitor numbers are on the improve.
The director said "It's been a really tough year for tourism and we certainly have seen some significant declines in some of our key markets, one of the resounding messages that is coming from many of our key markets is ... the fact that bookings are starting to return.”
Ms Harch says the increased interest is mostly originating in the UK.
"There really is a positive feel in the industry up there and people are starting to look at long-haul travel to Australia again," Wendy said.
"We also had our UK representative here and obviously in the UK there's been a lot of buzz around our island caretaker being a Brit and he has done amazing things for destination awareness over there."
Visit-Queensland wonders just how much of this improvement can be attributed to Tourism Queensland’s Island Caretaker (and winner of the best job in the world competition) Ben Southall.
Ben was recently a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show in the US and his five minute interview has Tourism Queensland executives all aflutter singing his praises.
Whilst this most recent interview has not yet had time to have an effect on Queensland accommodation bookings, Ben has been a very busy man indeed.
His blog reports about his activities list just about everything you could ever want to see and do around the islands of Queensland and he regularly hosts international visitors wanting to record his exploits.
