Brisbane is also known as “The River City” because the Brisbane River runs right through the centre of the city. There are ferries to take you to the different areas along the river, as well as relaxing cruises both day and night.
Like all major cities, Brisbane has a vibrant nightlife with a multitude of clubs, bars and restaurants that cater to every conceivable taste.
Brisbane also plays host to many important annual events such as “RiverFire” (New Years Eve Fireworks), The Country Exhibition (also known as the Ekka), major sporting events of all types and many more, be sure to check out our Special Events Page for a full list.
While the population of Brisbane is relatively small by international standards (1.8 Million), the people of Brisbane ensure that visitors are always made to feel welcome when they visit Queensland and their fair city.
Brisbane is located in the South East of Queensland not far from the border with New South Wales, and if you’ve ever heard of Rugby League, then Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium is the place to go. Previously called Lang Park, this stadium is the spiritual home of Rugby League in Australia and home to the mighty “QLD Maroons”.
With a fierce and often brutal rivalry having grown over many years against the “N.S.W. Blues” in the State of Origin, these games of Rugby League have taken on a somewhat legendary status both here in Australia and in many other countries that play the game.
Brisbane makes a great stepping off point to most places across Queensland, but before heading off to see the rest of the wonders that make Queensland such an amazing place to visit, be sure to spend some time in the fair city of Brisbane, you’ll be glad you did.
